FAQ's

Where is the church and what is the easiest way to get there?
First United Methodist Church is in downtown Topeka, Kansas, located on SW 6th street between Harrison Street and SW Topeka Boulevard.  It is easily accessible from I-70 and Highways 40, 75 and 4.  View maps and detailed directions.

Where should I park?
Parking is available on the street on both 6th and Harrison streets and in the church parking lots located both west and south of the main church building.  Parking is also available on Sundays in the State of Kansas lot located directly east of the church, across Harrison street. 

Are there provisions for handicapped individuals at FUMC?
Handicapped parking spaces are located just west of the Celebration Room door on the west side of the main church building.  The chapel and sanctuary are both handicapped accessible. Both have provisions for wheelchair seating. Additionally, Fellowship Hall and all levels of the education space are accessible via the elevator.

Is childcare available?
Childcare is available from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday mornings and also available for many other church events on an as-needed basis. Contact Tiwana in the church office to verify the availability of and make reservations for childcare for an event you are planning to attend.

Does your church welcome gay individuals or individuals with AIDS?
First United Methodist Church is called into community in the name of Jesus Christ who includes all of God's children in his love and grace. We welcome ALL persons to the fellowship of our family.

How do I become a member of First United Methodist Church of Topeka?
Official church membership requires the Ritual of New Member Reception during Sunday worship. First United Methodist Church Of Topeka also offers optional orientation classes called First Discovery and other get-acquainted new member activities to help new members become familiar with First Church and get involved in church activities. For additional information contact Tiwana Whitten or one of the pastors.

Who is on staff at First United Methodist Church of Topeka?
Dr. Max Clayton is the senior pastor and Rev. Sandy Vogel is the part-time associate pastor. There are also several full time administrative and program personnel.  You can learn more about the staff here.
